Every unit is shaped by local Ghanaian artisans from locally sourced materials, blending craftsmanship with modern minimalism. The result is a sanctuary that doesn't sit on the coast — it belongs to it.

The 36 Islands of Ada

Where the Volta meets the sea, the river scatters into islands.

Marsaiah sits at the edge of one of West Africa's great meeting points — the estuary where the Volta River ends its 1,600-kilometre journey in the Atlantic. Scattered through the river mouth lie the islands of Ada: communities that press coconut oil by hand on Azizakpe, distil local gin on Aflive, and weave mats and baskets on Alorkpem as their families have for generations.

This is Dangme country. The Ada people trace their story to a migration from ancient Notsie, crossing the great river to settle these shores three centuries ago — a history of courage still celebrated every first week of August in the Asafotufiam festival, when musketry salutes the warrior ancestors. To the west lies the Songor, the sacred salt lagoon that has fed and sustained Ada for as long as anyone can tell. Our guides grew up in these waters. Every experience below supports the island families who host it.

Getting here

Marsaiah is on the Ada Foah coastline, roughly 2 hours' drive east of Accra. Follow the Accra–Aflao road and turn toward Ada Foah at Kasseh Junction. Taxis and ride-hailing run from Accra; shared transport reaches Kasseh, with local taxis for the last stretch. Send us your arrival time on WhatsApp and we'll help you plan the trip.

When to come

Sea turtles nest August through February. The Asafotufiam festival fills Ada with drums and celebration in the first week of August. The estuary is beautiful year-round — dry-season months (November–March) bring the most reliable sun.
